ADRIAN LEWIS narrowly avoided serious injury when he suffered a punctured tyre on Saturday - and admitted that taking part in a charity track day helped him escape an accident.
The Ladbrokes World Darts Champion was travelling to Scotland on the M6 on Saturday morning with a friend when his car suffered a puncture.
The vehicle began to skid towards a lorry, but Lewis managed to regain control of the car and turned it towards the outside lane as he avoided an accident.
The 26-year-old had taken part in a charity track day at the Rockingham circuit in 2007, when he was invited by the RAC to take part in an event which raised over £15,000 for the Cauldwell Children's charity, and admitted that the skid training he received proved vital on Saturday.
"It was pretty scary," admitted Lewis. "At first when I had the puncture I started to lose control of the car, but then I remembered the training I'd had about how to deal with skids.
"I managed to get it under control and get the front end of the car out from under the lorry just in time.
"If it hadn't been for the track day I might not have been as lucky - it's probably the best thing I've ever done for charity!"
