Darts Treat For The Voice Star

THE PDC welcomed a star of hit television show The Voice to the Betway Premier League Darts in Manchester - as Bob Blakeley enjoyed a walk-on on stage and met his idols Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis.

Stockport singer Blakeley recently shot to fame on the BBC programme, when none of the four judges on The Voice selected him - thinking he was already a professional following a brilliant rendition of "Cry Me A River".

However, he was given huge public support and has since earned a record contract, with his debut album "Performance" set to come out on May 19.

Blakeley was a special guest when the Betway Premier League Darts visited Manchester's Phones 4u Arena on Thursday - with his debut video being played on the big screens before he was given a full PDC walk-on, threw darts on stage and was interviewed by MC John McDonald.

He also met up with the stars of the Betway Premier League Darts and shared a picture with Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis - and beamed: "It's absolutely unbelievable!

"My legs were shaking like I was on The Voice! To walk on with the girls was tremendous, and I had a chance to meet Phil Taylor, my darts idol, which was really brilliant.

"I like watching [Michae] van Gerwen too. He's a tremendous talent, a breath of fresh air for darts, a super guy.

"I tried throwing six darts on stage and my arm was shaking - I was a nervous wreck! I don't know how they can perform on the stage like that, I guess that's what makes them professionals I suppose."

Blakeley plays darts in the local Stockport leagues and is friends with darts stars Tony O'Shea and Darryl Fitton - but admits that he may have to step back from playing to promote his album, only weeks after being an unknown contestant on The Voice.

"The judges didn't turn for me on The Voice, but it's absolutely gone crazy," he added. "The album's coming out in May and it's going to be non-stop and I think it's going to take off properly - I can't wait."
