Gurney & Szaganski Reach Dublin Decider

DARYL GURNEY and Radek Szaganski will contest the final of the Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay championship on Sunday October 12 at Dublin's Citywest Hotel.

The annual tournament, held in memory of the former Irish professional darts player Tom Kirby, saw its early stages held at O'Shea's Hotel in Tramore.

As well as being a prestigious national title, the Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay also serves to provide the Irish Qualifier for the William Hill World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace in London in December & January.

Northern Irish ace Gurney is seeking his second victory in the tournament, with his 2012 triumph proving the launchpad for his PDC career - as he defeated Robert Marijanovic and Andy Smith to reach the last 32 of the World Championship before going on to win a PDC Tour Card.

He secured his place in the final - to be held ahead of the partypoker.com World Grand Prix final at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin on Sunday October 12 - with victories over Kieran Keho, Mick McGowan and Dean Finn in the latter stages in Tramore.

Polish-born Radek Szaganski will be Gurney's opponent in the final, after he defeated Keith Beale, Justin McGuigan and Michael Meaney in the latter stages.

Szaganski has previously competed in PDC Players Championships across Ireland in 2008, 2009 and 2013, as well as in four World Masters events representing his adopted nation.

Meaney's run to the semi-finals eclipsed his finishes in the last 16 of the event for the past two years, while former PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship quarter-finalist Dean Finn joined him in the last four.

2011 Tom Kirby Memorial Irish Matchplay champion Connie Finnan lost out to Meaney in the quarter-finals, with former PDC star Mick McGowan also reaching the last eight in Tramore.

Gurney's clash with Szaganski will take place at approximately 6.15pm on Sunday October 12, ahead of the partypoker.com World Grand Prix final.

Tickets for the partypoker.com World Grand Prix are available now through the SeeTickets box office on 0818 776378 (Ireland) or 0844 871 8807 (UK), or direct from the Citywest Hotel by calling 00353 (0)1 401 0505, or online at www.seetickets.com/darts.
