Unibet Masters Backs Musselburgh Race

THE Professional Darts Corporation will take a unique approach to promoting their Unibet Masters darts event in Scotland - by sponsoring a horse race at Musselburgh this Sunday.

The "Unibet Masters Darts Tickets Available Now Apprentice Handicap" will be the last of seven races to take place on Sunday September 28 as part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland Family Day at the course.

A five furlong sprint race at 5.20pm, the Unibet Masters Darts Tickets Available Now Apprentice Handicap is promoting the 16-player Unibet Masters darts event, which will be held at the Royal Highland Centre on November 1-2.

The PDC are also giving one lucky fan - Steven Campbell - two VIP tickets to Sunday's Royal Regiment of Scotland Family Day which include presenting the Best Turned Out horse pre-race and the post-race Trophy Presentation!

The prize - given away through a competition on the OfficialPDC Twitter and Facebook pages encouraging fans to submit darts-related horse names - also includes tickets to watch The Unibet Masters on Saturday November 1, with Campbell's suggestion "One Hundred And Neigh-ty" chosen as the winner by PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

Hearn explained: "As the Unibet Masters is only taking place for the second time this November, it is still a new tournament in the darting calendar, and sponsoring a race at Musselburgh is a great way to increase the profile of the tournament in the Edinburgh area.

"Sunday's meeting is one of the course's most popular days as they recognise the Royal Regiment of Scotland, and we're delighted to be a part of it.

"One of the horses entered into our race is called "On The High Tops" - perhaps a fitting name for a darts-related winner!"

The Unibet Masters was first held in November 2013, and features the world's leading 16 darts players - including Phil "The Power" Taylor and reigning World Champion Michael van Gerwen - competing live on ITV4.

Held at the Royal Highland Centre, play on both Saturday November 1 and Sunday November 2 features both afternoon sessions and evening sessions as players compete for the £50,000 first prize.
