Green Chasing Chisnall Victory

ROBBIE GREEN is aiming to KO former room-mate Dave Chisnall at the SINGHA Beer Grand Slam of Darts as the knockout stage of the £400,000 event kicks off at the Wolves Civic on Wednesday.

Lakeside Championship semi-finalist Green defeated Robert Thornton and Vincent van der Voort to qualify from a tough Group D along with Raymond van Barneveld.

Wallasey-based Green's second round opponent is St Helens' Chisnall, who has risen into the PDC's top eight over the past three years and starred in the Premier League earlier in 2014.

However, Green is aiming to upset his former County darts team-mate when they take to the stage over the best of 19 legs.

"I've known Dave for years - we used to room together when we played County darts and he was always moaning about my snoring!" jokes Green.

"He's a fantastic player and I'm really looking forward to it because I've seen how successful he's been in the last few years with the PDC and am proud of him.

"It's going to be an honour to share the stage with him - may the best man win."

Green admitted to feeling nerves as he went down 5-3 to van Barneveld in his opening group game on Saturday, but his transition on the Wolves Civic stage was confirmed when he sealed qualification with a 170 checkout against van der Voort.

"Maybe I was a little overawed against Raymond in the first game - the atmosphere was electric and I loved every minute of it, but I just wasn't used to having a crowd like that," he admitted.

"I learned from that and I have been fine in the last two games, and it's great that I'll be back up there on Wednesday. If I feel like I'm playing well and I'm confident then anything can happen."

Van Barneveld will take on giant-killer Keegan Brown in their second round game, with the World Youth Champion having overcome Adrian Lewis 5-1 in one of his two Group Stage wins.

PDC World Champion Michael van Gerwen is up against Terry Jenkins in a repeat of their recent clash in the European Championship final, while Belgium's Kim Huybrechts takes on Grand Slam debutant Alan Norris.

Lakeside Championship runner-up Norris won two of his three group matches as he progressed to the Last 16, and said: "I came here just to enjoy myself but to go through and top the group is a bonus.

"I think I can relax a bit now and I'm looking forward to a longer format. Kim's a great player but I need to make sure that I focus on my own game and prepare myself properly.

"My finishing has been great so far but I'm not scoring as well as I want to, so if I can get some consistency then I could be a danger."
