FLEETWOOD TOWN footballers Cian Bolger, Lewie Coyle and Alex Cairns teamed up with Daryl Gurney and Kim Huybrechts for a special darts challenge at the BetVictor World Matchplay.
The trio from local League One side Fleetwood took to the stage at the Winter Gardens on Wednesday, where they competed in a nine-dart challenge complete with personalised shirts.
The nine-dart challenge was won by Cian "Bullseye" Bolger, who scored 207 from his three visits to the oche, with Lewie "The Royal" Coyle scoring 155 and Alex "The Arrow" Cairns hitting just 86 from his nine darts.
Bolger was paired with Northern Irish ace Gurney and Coyle partnered Belgian star Huybrechts for a best-of-three leg Doubles match, which was overseen by PDC referee Russ Bray.
Bolger took out 40 to win the opening leg, with Huybrechts hitting double ten to level - but it was Bolger who hit double top to secure victory in a deciding leg.
With Fleetwood Town building up to the new football season, Coyle believes that the competitive spirit within the squad can build from activities like the darts challenge.
"I think it is a healthy thing to have amongst the lads," Coyle told the Blackpool Gazette. "There were only a few of us but I think if there were more numbers you would have seen more of a competitive side.
"It is healthy and I think it is something that will stand us in good stead when the season starts."
