Gurney Moves Up To Fourth

Daryl Gurney (Kelly Deckers)

DARYL GURNEY has moved up to a career-high fourth on the PDC Order of Merit following the Unibet European Championship.

The Northern Irish ace's amazing rise continued in Belgium as he won through to the European Championship semi-finals, where he picked up £20,000 in prize money.

Having begun the year at 21st on the Order of Merit, Gurney had already moved into the world's top 16 before his Unibet World Grand Prix triumph at the start of October jumped him up to sixth.

His run to the semi-finals at the European Championship followed appearances in the last four at the UK Open and World Matchplay, and saw Gurney jump above both Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis to fourth in the world rankings.

"To be number four in the world looks great but I still haven't achieved what I want to and obviously the main goal is going beyond four - but number four in the world is really good," said Gurney.

"There's probably a lot more players who are better than me in the world - I don't see myself as the number four. I'm just a normal player trying my best in every single game."

Peter Wright returned to second in the rankings as he jumped back above Gary Anderson, while quarter-final appearances for Michael Smith and Simon Whitlock saw them overtake James Wade, who drops to 12th.

European Championship semi-finalist Kyle Anderson moved up to a career-high 22nd, while runner-up Rob Cross jumped from 29th to 24th in the standings after claiming £40,000 in prize money.
