Dolan determined to be regular winner

Brendan Dolan is determined to follow up Tuesday's Players Championship 5 success with further PDC titles - admitting: I'm fed up of just taking part!

The Northern Irish ace claimed the eighth ranking title of his career to begin PDC Super Series 2 in style with seven superb wins on Tuesday.

Dolan's overall average of 102.19 was the seventh-highest tournament average from a Players Championship winner since the DartConnect system began being used in 2018, showcasing the quality of his play across the day.

Dolan had also won two Players Championships in 2019 to kick-start his career, and the 2011 World Grand Prix finalist is aiming to compete for further honours during 2021.

"I want to win more," said the 47-year-old. "I'm fed up of just taking part, and for a few years I was happy just to be here with the best in the world.

"Now I'm not happy to do that, I want to be better than them.

"Considering the standard of players that I have to play against now compared to when I first started; the standard was good at the top when I first started, but now it's that good at the bottom so you have to raise your game.

"I've changed a few things, changed the tempo of my throw - maybe not my speed of walking in and out, because I want to stay calm within myself - but what I want to do is for me to be in control of what I'm throwing.

"I dictate that when I put my foot to the oche, it's only me that's at the oche."

Having ended a five-year title drought in 2019, Dolan admitted that he had considered his future in the sport at the time.

"You have a lot of scar tissue, the belief's not there," he added. "I was lucky I had a wife and step children that believed in me, and my mother and brothers and sisters all believed in me, whereas I didn't - but that got me through it.

"Their belief got me through it, they took the pressure off me and then it started to click."
