Zhang Wins Opening Chinese Event

DAWEI ZHANG took victory in the first of ten events being staged on the new PDC-affiliated circuit in China in 2016.

The year's first three tournaments will count towards selection for places in the Chinese team at June's Betway World Cup of Darts.

Dawei Zhang won the event in Qingdao, beating Weihong Li 2-1 a closely contested final. Li raced in to the lead winning the opening set 3-0, however, Zhang battled back to win the next two sets 3-1 and 3-2 respectively.

Both players will now move on to China’s World Cup Qualifier and will be joined by Zhipeng Fan, Zhongmin Gao, Zijian Li, Yu Lin, Xicheng Han and Guangming Zhang.

The China Qualifier Series will see ten events aimed at selecting players for various PDC events.

Stages One to Three will count towards the Betway World Cup of Darts, Stages Four to Seven for the inaugural Shanghai Darts Masters event and Stages Eight to Ten for the William Hill World Darts Championship.

Stage Two will take place on Saturday April 9 in Guangzhou.
