Weber Wins 2014 Oceanic Masters

JOHN WEBER has won a place in the William Hill World Darts Championship after taking victory in the 2014 Firma Industries Puma DPA Oceanic Masters.

Weber, 42, competed earlier this year in the PDC's World Series of Darts events in Perth and Sydney and has starred on the DPA Australian Grand Prix circuit.

Queensland-born but now based in Melbourne, Weber won the Sunday's prestigious Oceanic Masters as he secured his World Championship spot alongside DPA AGP Order of Merit winner Loz Ryder.

Weber opened his Oceanic Masters challenge with a whitewash of Dino Cantatore and then edged out Barry Gardner before defeating Cody Harris 6-0 in the quarter-finals.

A 6-3 defeat of Jeremy Fagg put Weber into the final against top New Zealand ace Rob Szabo, who he defeated 8-2.

Weber took the game's opening five legs without reply before former World Championship qualifier Szabo shared the next four, but the tenth went to the 42-year-old as he sealed the win.

Szabo defeated Harvey Mayall, Robbie King, Kyle Anderson and Shane Tichowitsch as he reached the decider, with Tichowitsch and Fagg losing out in the last four.

Reigning champion Beau Anderson was knocked out with a 6-5 defeat to Fagg in the quarter-finals, alongside brother Kyle, Cody Harris and New Zealand's Craig Caldwell.

Kyle Anderson could still qualify for the World Championship through the PDC's ProTour Order of Merit should he pick up enough prize money in the final weekend of Players Championship events later this month to move him into the qualifying places.
