Wright Aiming For Dublin Spark

PETER WRIGHT is hoping to use the partypoker.com World Grand Prix as the catalyst for a successful end to 2014.

Wright has moved up to a career-high fourth in the PDC Order of Merit this year, with his run to the World Championship final on New Year's Day followed by a Players Championship win in May and a European Tour win in July.

However, Wright - who will open his World Grand Prix challenge against Jamie Caven on Tuesday - has not won past the quarter-finals in eight tournaments since, and is hoping to regain his best form going into the autumn's major TV events.

"It's been an up-and-down season," Wright, who starred in the 2014 Betway Premier League Darts, told the Diss Express.

"I've won a Players Championship event and the European Darts Open which are hard to win. But then I'm going out in the first round and I'm thinking what's going on?

"I've got a target on my back now. However, I'm world number four and it's about time I started playing like it.

"There's five or six television tournaments coming up before the end of the year. I want to get back in form for them and I'm also hoping to do well in the two events this weekend."
