THE final European Tour event of 2014 takes place this weekend, with the European Darts Trophy set to see 48 players compete in the first PDC event in Leipzig, Germany.
Following seven previous European Tour events this year, the season of continental PDC ProTour events concludes from Friday September 19-Sunday September 21 at the Kohlrabizirkus.
The £100,000 European Darts Trophy is the final event before the cut-off for the partypoker.com World Grand Prix, with the world's top 16 players joined by 14 qualifiers from the ProTour Order of Merit plus the top two Irish/Northern Irish players from the ProTour Order of Merit.
From the original entries for the European Darts Trophy, Gary Anderson and Phil Taylor have now withdrawn, with the highest-ranked qualifiers - Terry Jenkins and Michael Smith, who came through the UK Qualifier in July - now moving up to become seeded players.
** Update (September 18): Adrian Lewis and Robert Thornton have withdrawn for personal reasons, and Andy Hamilton and Wes Newton now move up to being seeded players.
A further four places will now be on offer in Thursday's final qualifying events in Leipzig, with ten players set to come through the European Qualifiers and six players to win through the Host Nation Qualifier.
Friday's first round of the European Darts Trophy sees the 32 qualifiers drawn to face each other, with play in one bumper session of 16 games from 3pm local time.
The 16 seeded players then enter the event in the second round on Saturday, with play held across two sessions as they come up against the first round winners.
The tournament will then conclude on Sunday, with the third round in the afternoon session before the evening session features the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
