Lucky Break For Wright?

PETER WRIGHT is aiming to complete a Betway Premier League Darts double over Phil Taylor in Newcastle as he bids to make the most of a lucky break - after he fell through a giant mirror recently.

World Championship finalist Wright enjoyed a 7-4 win over Taylor when they met in the Premier League in February, and could put one foot into the Play-Offs with another victory against the 16-time World Champion at the Metro Radio Arena.

However, Wright has revealed that he feared for his career last week after falling from a workbench at home and crashing through a mirror - fortunately avoiding injury.

"I beat Phil last time so I want to do exactly the same again - but I'm lucky just to be here," said the 44-year-old.

"I jumped up onto a unit - I was climbing up to get a bracket for a projector - but I'm not as fit as I was and I slipped off and fell straight through a big mirror.

"I was on the floor, legs up in the air, surrounded by a mirror and I didn't get cut by a single bit. I laid there looking around me, thinking I couldn't see any blood and I wasn't missing anything.

"I'm just glad I wasn't in hospital, I was so lucky. I could have lost some limbs or a big bit could have gone in my back - or I could have not been playing darts any more.

"They say it's seven years' bad luck, but I was lucky I got away with it to be honest."

Wright is level on 16 league points with Gary Anderson going into the final two league nights, but is confident he can claim a Play-Off place after being inside the top four throughout his debut Premier League season.

"I've been practising really well recently, and every week I'm having to dig deeper and deeper, and I'll never give up," added Wright. "I'm still trying to qualify and I want to try and get something out of the game this week."
