JOHN PART is eagerly awaiting his Championship League Darts debut on Tuesday.
The Canadian did not play in the inaugural internet-screened event last year, which was won by Phil Taylor and is played behind closed doors.
Championship League Darts is unique for staging daily eight-player groups, with the winners progressing to a final group in October.
While Part saw fleeting glimpses of the tournament, the former World Champion is looking forward to being a part of the opening group, involving eight of the world's top ten, on Tuesday.
"I didn't necessarily like missing the Championship League Darts last year but it was a busy year," said Part.
"I didn't see much at all last year but followed it on the internet from Canada and have a good idea of how it works.
"It's fun, and it's also different for us players to be playing for such high stakes but without an audience!
"I've played darts in my basement like that, so it won't be too different."
While some players may be shy of facing the likes of Taylor, James Wade and Mervyn King on the opening day, Part believes it could be a great chance to progress.
"It's good fun playing the round-robin format," he said.
"I think one of the secrets to this event will be getting through in one of the earlier days when people think you're less likely to get through.
"I see it that when everyone's bashing each other up, you're more likely to get through.
"The first day is a good opportunity and hopefully I can come through the top side of it and have a good finish to the day and win through.
"That's the plan because as days go by, I think the better players tend to win more and more of the league games and be more commanding, and harder to beat."
The tournament will also see Part back in action having returned to using kite shaped flights, having experimented with slim flights during the summer.
"I took a few chances by switching my equipment when I did because my game was actually pretty good, and I was hoping to bump it up by eight to ten points per match and emulate Phil," he explained.
"At times it worked but at other times it was maybe more hurtful than helpful, so I'm going to go with the more steady approach.
"Maybe that's more John Part anyway, to be steady and grind out wins, and always be in the picture.
"That's the sort of John Part who can have a great chance in the Championship League Darts, because you need to be steady, consistent and always in with a shot in a leg."
