Baxter Sets Up Taylor Semi

RONNIE BAXTER set up a clash with Phil Taylor in the semi-finals of the Bavaria World Darts Trophy with a 5-3 win over Mike Veitch on Friday night.

Baxter followed up his previous wins over Paul Hogan and Martin Atkins by ending Scotsman Veitch's hopes in Utrecht.

After taking the opening two sets to put himself in command, Baxter saw Veitch hit back to win the third 3-1.

The world number three took the fourth and fifth sets by the same scoreline to move to within one of victory, only for Veitch to again come back into the game.

Aided by missed doubles from Baxter, the Scotsman took the next two sets to cut the gap to one, and then led 2-0 in the eighth.

But a "Shanghai" 120 finish from Baxter settled his nerves, and he won the next two legs to move into the last four.

He will take on Taylor in the semi-finals on Saturday, with the other seeing 17-year-old Dutch star Michael van Gerwen take on Martin Adams.

Adams booked his place in the semis with a 5-0 win over Holland's Niels de Ruiter in Friday's other quarter-final.

The Englishman dropped just five legs in the contest and took two sets without reply.

The second semi-final of the Youth competition saw Ron Meulenkamp defeat Jan Dekker 5-0.

He will meet Sven van Dun in Saturday's final, which will follow the first semi-final, between Taylor and Baxter.
