Van Barneveld Aiming For League Double

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD has set his sights on glory in the Holsten Premier League Darts, after lifting the Topic International Darts League title on Sunday.

The Dutchman produced a superb performance to defeat Colin Lloyd 13-5 in the final of the tournament, which spanned nine days in Nijmegen.

He has a fortnight to relax before heading to Plymouth for the play-offs in the Holsten Premier League Darts.

He will meet fellow Dutchman Roland Scholten in the semi-finals, and could then face Phil Taylor or Colin Lloyd in the final to play for the £50,000 first prize.

"I'm looking forward to playing Roland," he said. "I'm not saying I will get to the final because although I've beaten Roland recently that doesn't mean I will do it again.

"I beat him 7-1 in the IDL and two times in the Premier League, but it's another match and he can beat me so I have to prepare myself to make sure that doesn't happen.

"The rest of the players are going to Connecticut now for the World Series of Darts.

"I'm not there this year but I'll get back onto the practice board and look forward to the play-offs in Plymouth."

After bouncing back from a loss in his opening group game, van Barneveld averaged 97.76 for the tournament, and broke his own record for maximums during the event with 55.

"I've enjoyed every single minute," he admitted.

"I didn't start well, losing 6-4 to Gary Robson, but that made me sharper.

"My next game, against Vincent van der Voort, I had just under a 35 (per dart) average, and I then played well in my third group game.

"For the rest of the week I did nothing wrong, except in the semi-final against Simon Whitlock. It was awesome, probably the only match I could have lost.

"I'd also like to thank the PDC. All the players have given me a warm welcome and from the first minute in Blackburn onwards I have enjoyed it.

"The players and crowds have given me a lot of respect, and playing at the highest level in the world every week against world class players gives you the satisfaction and skill to do whatever you can.

"That showed this week. Because we are playing in the Holsten Premier League every Thursday, that experience goes with you."
