ANDY HAMILTON 4-1 TERRY JENKINS
(3-0, 3-1, 3-1, 1-3, 3-2)
ANDY HAMILTON set up a meeting with hero Phil Taylor in the third round of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship, after a superb 4-1 win over Terry Jenkins.
Stoke landlord Hamilton was a quarter-finalist at the Circus Tavern 12 months ago, and continued his run through the field this time around with a commanding victory.
The qualifier stormed out of the blocks, taking the first set without reply and winning the third leg in 13 darts.
His red-hot form continued in the second set, which he took 3-1, and Hamilton then set up a possible nine-dart leg at the start of the third, but missed his eighth dart.
The 38-year-old still won the leg, in 11 darts, and moved 3-0 up in the game before Jenkins finally found his doubles.
He won the fourth set 3-1, and also went 2-0 up in the fifth before Hamilton regathered himself.
The Stoke thrower reeled off three straight legs, punishing a missed double to stay in the match from Jenkins to progress to the last 16.
"It's a cracking win," admitted Hamilton. "I felt so comfortable up there and everything I went for, I hit.
"I wanted to play Phil Taylor for the first time. He's the best in the game and I want to find out how good I am and prove if I am good enough to compete with him.
"Hopefully on the day I will be. My other ambition is to get into the top 32.
"That won't take long the way I am playing now. Taking over the pub means I can practice more and get to more tournaments and there's no reason I can't do that now."
Jenkins admitted: "I'm disappointed. I didn't get into the game at all and should have made it 3-2 when I had that shot at double top.
"I thought I could get that set back, but it wasn't to be."
