LUKE HUMPHRIES completed a weekend double by winning PDC Unicorn Development Tour Event Four on Sunday, after Ryan Meikle had claimed his first title with victory in Event Three at Wigan's Robin Park Tennis Centre.

Humphries, who won the first Development Tour event of 2017 on Saturday, triumphed again by defeating Kenny Neyens in the final in the second of two £10,000 tournaments on Sunday.

Meikle had earlier beaten Harry Ward to clinch his maiden title and continue his good start to the year, having also qualified for his first TV event at next month's Coral UK Open Finals.

The 20-year-old began Sunday's action with successive 4-0 wins against Joshua Burksfield and Guido Den Hartog before seeing off Neyens and Mike De Decker to reach the last 16.

There, the Suffolk prospect - who has being competing on the PDC ProTour since January 2016 - beat Rhys Hayden 4-1 and then defeated Nico Blum 5-1 to progress to the semi-finals.

A 5-4 success against former World Youth Championship finalist Rowby-John Rodriguez saw Meikle reach his first final, which he won convincingly, triumphing 5-1 against 19-year-old Ward.

Swadlincote's Ward had defeated Nicholas Day, Scott Jackson, Rhys Julian, Berry van Peer, Sam Hewson and Adam Hunt to reach the decider.

Humphries then embarked on a second glory charge from four events played over the weekend to place himself top of the Development Tour Order of Merit.

The Newbury-based talent, who had suffered a second round exit in Event Three, bounced back with wins against Rusty-Jake Rodriguez, Casper Rasmussen and Jake Jones to reach Event Four's last 16.

There, he enjoyed a 4-2 victory against Liam Freeman before seeing off Stephen Rosney 5-2 to reach the semi-finals, where he defeated Ronnie Roberts 5-3.

Humphries then completed a brace of tournament triumphs with a 5-2 win against Belgium's Neyens, who sits in second place on the Order of Merit after reaching two finals in as many days.

Neyens, who had hit a nine-darter in the first Development Tour event of the year, beat Brandon Walsh, Jordan Lister, Jacob Paul John Cooksey, Jack Dickinson, Blum, Jimmy Hendriks and Ted Evetts to reach another decider.

Three-time Development Tour Event winner Hunt's run to the last four in the first of Sunday's tournaments made it three consecutive semi-finals for the 23-year-old.

Evetts, who fired in a perfect leg during the UK Open Qualifiers, saved his best run of the weekend for the last event, reaching the semi-finals.

The PDC Unicorn Development Tour returns to Wigan next month, with Events 5-8 being played across two days at Robin Park Tennis Centre on March 18-19.
