RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD 8-1 JOHN PART
RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD recorded his fourth win of the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts season with an 8-1 rout of John Part at the SECC in Glasgow.
Van Barneveld bounced back brilliantly from last week's defeat to Phil Taylor with a near-flawless display to see off the Canadian.
He looked on course to claim only the third ever Premier League whitewash when he took a 7-0 lead, and though Part briefly retaliated the Dutchman ensured a comprehensive win to take himself into the play-off places.
Van Barneveld made an ideal start to hit a 180 and double 16 to win the opening leg before landing another maximum and a 91 finish for an 11-darter against the throw in the next.
Part hit a 180 of his own in the third, but van Barneveld was too strong to move 3-0 up on double four.
A missed double 16 from Part in the next allowed the Dutchman to secure another break of throw, before he took out another double 16 and then a 71 finish for a 6-0 lead at the break.
He returned with scores of 180 and 140 to pull clear, and landed double top to move a leg away from the whitewash.
Misses at double 18 and double nine from Part gave van Barneveld his chance for the 8-0 win - only for him to be narrowly off-target on double 16 for a 112 checkout.
Part landed double four, but any hope of claiming an unlikely draw were quickly ended as van Barneveld swept to the ninth leg on double eight.
"I'm really happy with the performance," said van Barneveld. "Every game is tough and it's like a final every week.
"I'm staying focused and it's working at the moment. I lost to Phil last week but he was superb, and this is what I needed to get myself back on track for the play-offs.
"I've worked hard for the last few weeks and I'm determined to get into the top four for the play-offs."
Van Barneveld admitted he was touched by a sensational reception in Glasgow, with over 5,000 fans cheering him to victory.
"I've never had a reception like this - even in Holland!" he added. "I don't know why it's like this in Scotland but it's unbelievable."

TERRY JENKINS 8-2 WAYNE MARDLE
TERRY JENKINS kick-started his Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts play-off bid with an 8-2 romp against Wayne Mardle.
A second win of the campaign keeps Jenkins three points behind Raymond van Barneveld in the battle for top four places in the event, following a comprehensive victory in Glasgow.
While the first two legs were shared on double ten, Jenkins took the third on double four and then broke throw for a 3-1 lead.
Missed doubles from Mardle in the next three legs allowed Jenkins to extend his run to five in a row either side of the break, including a 115 checkout as he pushed 6-1 up.
Mardle was given a reprieve in the next, but a missed double top for a 109 checkout allowed Jenkins to hit double five to ensure at least a draw at 7-2.
Any comeback, though, was unlikely for an off-form Mardle, with Jenkins wrapping up the win in 14 darts on double eight to leave the Essex showman bottom of the table.
"I needed the win and it's great to get that," said Jenkins.
"I'm playing well again and hitting my doubles. I had a bad spell with my finishing but that was in my head and I'm past it.
"I've been a bit unlucky at times and maybe should have won three of the games I lost or drew, but I can look forward to the remaining games now."

PHIL TAYLOR 8-6 JELLE KLAASEN
PHIL TAYLOR maintained his place at the top of the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts table with a narrow 8-6 win over Jelle Klaasen in Glasgow.
The defending Premier League champion silenced the partisan Scottish crowd to pick up his sixth win of the campaign.
A tight battle saw the first eight legs shared before Taylor edged 5-4 up and maintained his edge until a 119 checkout gave him a 7-6 cushion.
He then wrapped up victory in the deciding leg, with Klaasen missing two darts for a draw before Taylor cheekily hushed the crowd and then landed double ten for the win.
"It was good fun," said Taylor. "The game was great to play in and the fans had their fun - they pay their money and can cheer or boo for whoever they want!
"We're in Scotland and they're always going to boo the English!"
Klaasen made the ideal start with a 108 finish in the first leg, but Taylor took the second and then paid for failing to leave a double on a 121 finish in the third, as double eight put the Dutchman 2-1 up.
Taylor defied a Klaasen 180 to level again, but three missed doubles to break throw were punished by double one from the youngster.
Klaasen again landed a maximum against the throw in leg six, but Taylor again levelled with a double six finish going into the break.
The pair shared the next two, before Taylor finally secured a break in leg nine, taking out double 16 after Klaasen wired double top for a 120 checkout.
Five missed doubles from Taylor allowed Klaasen to hit back in the next before the pair shared 180s in the 11th before Taylor took out a 12-darter on double 16.
A missed double top allowed Klaasen to level at six-all, only for Taylor to win the 13th leg against the throw with a superb 118 finish, ending on double 19.
Klaasen began the decider with a 180, with Taylor setting up a finish with a 177 score and then stepping in to seal the win after two missed doubles from his opponent.
"Jelle played superbly but hit a few bad shots that let me in," added Taylor. "But this event will be the making of him because he's learning a lot."

MERVYN KING 8-3 JAMES WADE
MERVYN KING climbed above James Wade to second in the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts table with an 8-3 victory in Glasgow.
King completed a Premier League double over Wade with another big win, following up his 8-1 triumph in Edinburgh in February with another strong display.
The Premier League debutant was not at his best throughout the contest, but found Wade unable to hit top gear in a frustrating performance.
King stormed into a 4-0 lead, taking out finishes of 119 and 104 to secure two early breaks of throw, and then extended his cushion to five legs on double two after both players missed chances in the next.
Wade took out double ten for a 67 finish to get off the mark, but King returned from the break to take the next two legs on double ten and double eight for a 7-1 advantage.
King missed match darts in the next two legs as Wade briefly threatened a comeback in reducing the arrears to 7-3.
But King ensured the victory on double eight to pick up his sixth win of the season.
"It wasn't my best performance but James didn't turn up and I was a little better than him," said King.
"That's probably the worst I've ever seen him play and I don't know why, but that wasn't the real him. In the practice room he was hitting everything and I thought I was in for a real tussle.
"I should have finished him off earlier and had some chances, but he did battle to stay in there. I did enough to get the win and it's two more points for me."

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD 8-1 JOHN PART

"I'm really happy with the performance," said van Barneveld. "Every game is tough and it's like a final every week.
"I'm staying focused and it's working at the moment. I lost to Phil last week but he was superb, and this is what I needed to get myself back on track for the play-offs.
"I've worked hard for the last few weeks and I'm determined to get into the top four for the play-offs."
Van Barneveld admitted he was touched by a sensational reception in Glasgow, with over 5,000 fans cheering him to victory.
