ANDY SMITH is recovering in hospital following an operation on the leg he injured in July.
The popular Studley-based thrower was injured a month ago when he slipped from a stage during an exhibition in Ireland.
He later competed in the StanJames.com World Matchplay, and travelled to the PartyPoker.net European Championship having subsequently had minor surgery to remove a blood clot from the leg.
However, the wound recently became infected, and Smith was admitted to hospital for an operation on the leg earlier this week.
"The leg still hurts but hopefully it's on the mend now," said Smith, who will also require plastic surgery on the injury.
"It's frustrating for me but I'm fortunate that I wasn't planning to go to Australia or Canada this month so I'm not rushing myself to recover."
