Six Of The Best For Beaton!

STEVE BEATON took debut glory in Group Six of Championship League Darts, defeating Vincent van der Voort 6-3 to book his place in October's Winners Group in the internet-streamed event.

The former World Champion entered the £200,000 tournament on Thursday for the first time, but adapted superbly to the behind-closed-doors event, winning five of seven league games.

Having finished second to van der Voort on Leg Difference after the eight-player group phase, he defeated Wayne Jones 6-3 in the semi-finals and repeated the scoreline in the final.

Beaton made an electric start to the final, hitting a 13-darter in the opening leg, a 161 finish in the second and an 11-darter to win the third.

Van der Voort took out 98 to get off the mark, but double eight restored Beaton's cushion and a 78 finish moved him 5-1 up.

The Dutchman hit a 114 finish to stay in the game and also took the eighth on double six, but Beaton's scoring pulled him clear in the next and double 15 gave Beaton the win.

He will now return to Crondon Park GC in Essex on October 14 to compete in the Winners Group, with Phil Taylor, Simon Whitlock, Alan Tabern, James Wade and Wes Newton already having book their place in the big-money final day.

Van der Voort will now return for Group Seven on October 12, but takes home £2,700 prize money from a memorable day on Thursday, as he battled against a back problem to finish top of the league table.

He had been whitewashed in his opening game by Dennis Priestley, but won five of his remaining six matches to edge out Beaton for top spot, before being denied in the decider.

Van der Voort and fellow Dutchmen Co Stompe and Jelle Klaasen will return for Group Seven, alongside Jones and Priestley, but there was disappointment for Jamie Caven and Adrian Lewis, who were eliminated.

Caven's debut in the event saw him win three matches and finish level on six points with Klaasen and Priestley, only to lose out on Leg Difference, while Lewis' incredible run of playing in 15 successive days of the tournament is now over.

The Stoke ace played in all nine groups last year and had been an ever-present this time around, but won just one of his seven league games as he ran out of steam, being whitewashed by van der Voort and Klaasen in his final two games.

Denis Ovens, Mark Dudbridge and Andy Smith will all come into the event in Group Seven, while Mark Webster, John Part and Michael van Gerwen will be the three entrants for Group Eight.

First Round of Matches
Co Stompe bounced back from his loss in the Group Five final with a 6-4 win over Adrian Lewis in Thursday's opener. A tight clash saw the pair break each others' throw for the opening five legs, before Stompe held in the sixth for a 4-2 lead. Lewis punished two misses from Stompe, who burst his score on 96, by finishing 100 in two darts for the seventh, and hit a 180 and double top to level. Stompe, though, broke again in the ninth and finished 120 to seal the win.
Jelle Klaasen swept past debutant Jamie Caven 6-2 to get his Group Six campaign off to a flying start. After Caven took the opening leg on tops, Klaasen stepped in to take five in a row, including two breaks of throw and some strong finishing to deny the Derby man. Caven hit a 180 and double four to win the seventh leg, but Klaasen was too strong in the next to wrap up the win.
Wayne Jones came from 5-2 down to force a deciding leg against debutant Steve Beaton, who took out 104 to win a deciding leg. After Beaton took out 120 for the opening leg, Jones left 24 with a 177 in the second as he levelled, but the former World Champion then won three in a row for a 4-1 cushion, including a 12-darter in leg five. The next two were shared to leave Beaton a leg away from the win, but Jones followed a 77 finish by hitting a 180 in the ninth and a 121 finish to force a decider, only for Beaton to take out 104 for the match.
Dennis Priestley made the perfect start to Group Six with a whitewash of Vincent van der Voort. After Priestley broke in the opening leg, hitting double ten after the Dutchman missed tops, the veteran pulled clear, hitting 180s in the second and fourth legs and an 85 finish in the fifth, before another double ten checkout wrapped up a fine triumph.

Second Round of Matches
Adrian Lewis
picked up his first win of Group Six with a 6-3 defeat of Jamie Caven. Lewis broke throw twice in the first three legs as he moved 3-0 up, only for Caven to reply in style to level the match. Lewis took the seventh, against the darts, and finished 80 on double five for a 5-3 lead before punishing two misses from Caven in the next to seal the win.
Steve Beaton maintained his winning start to Championship League Darts with a 6-4 win over Dennis Priestley. Beaton followed up his win over Wayne Jones by taking out double four to win the opening leg against the throw - after five missed doubles from Priestley - and finished 83 to double his lead. Priestley, aided by two 180s, won the next three to lead 3-2, but Beaton finished 104 to level and broke again for the seventh, with double eight moving him 5-3 up. A 100 finish gave the Yorkshireman the ninth, but double 16 sealed Beaton's second win.
Vincent van der Voort picked up his first win of Group Six, defeating Wayne Jones 6-3. There was little between the players for much of the contest, with the pair trading legs until van der Voort broke in the eighth on double 16 for a 5-3 lead, and a 110 finish secured the points.
Co Stompe's winning start to Group Six continued as he saw off Jelle Klaasen 6-3 in the all-Dutch clash. Stompe took the opener and finished 127 for a 2-0 lead before Klaasen got off the mark. Klaasen won two of the next three to level, but another 127 checkout edged him 4-3 up, and he took the next two to seal the victory.

Third Round of Matches
Dennis Priestley
bounced back to winning ways, inflicting a third straight defeat on Jamie Caven with a 6-3 win. Although Caven shared the first four legs, missed doubles twice allowed Priestley in before the veteran took double ten and double four for a 4-2 lead. Caven punished a missed double 19 from Priestley, for a 158 finish, to take the seventh, but three further misses allowed his opponent back to hit double two for a 5-3 lead. A 180 edged Priestley ahead in the next, and after Caven missed double 12 for a 144 finish the two-time World Champion returned following five earlier misses to hit double four for the win.
Steve Beaton remains unbeaten after three games on his Championship League Darts debut, following a 6-4 win over Adrian Lewis. Beaton continued a strong start to the day by breaking twice in the opening three legs as he took a 3-1 lead. Lewis punished three misses to win the fifth, and levelled on double 16 before Beaton took another double salvo to lead 5-3. An 89 finish from Lewis gave him the ninth, but a 180 was not enough in the next as Beaton hit double top for the win.
Vincent van der Voort edged out Dutch rival Jelle Klaasen 6-5 to win his second game of Group Six. Klaasen kicked off the match with a 180 and took the opening leg on double eight before van der Voort - who is battling a back problem - hit back with a 180 in levelling and also took the next two for a 3-1 lead. Klaasen claimed the next three legs to lead 4-3, but missed doubles in the eighth allowed his rival to level on double 18. A 102 finish put Klaasen 5-4 up, but double 16 levelled, and double 12 in the decider gave van der Voort the win.
Wayne Jones won a second Group Six match, seeing off Co Stompe 6-4 with a 161 finish. Stompe took out 120 for the opening leg, but missed double five for a 130 finish in the second as Jones levelled and then took out double four to lead 2-1. Stompe squared the game, but Jones took out 110 in the fifth before the duo traded double one checkouts as the Wolverhampton ace moved 4-3 up. Double top saw Stompe level, but Jones hit the same bed for a 5-4 cushion and sealed the win in style with a 161 checkout.

Fourth Round of Matches
Dennis Priestley won his third game of the day, seeing off Adrian Lewis 6-2. Lewis start well, winning the first two legs before being punished for two missed double tops in the third, as Priestley matched his 180 and hit double top. Another tops finish levelled, and after Lewis missed the bed again in the fifth the 60-year-old landed double 18 for a 3-2 lead. He hit scores of 140 and 180 in taking the sixth, and left 70 with a 177 in moving 5-2 up, before another double top finish sealed the win.
Jamie Caven picked up his first win of Group Six, and ended Steve Beaton's winning start with a 6-1 triumph. Caven defied a 180 from Beaton to take the opening leg and punished a missed double top in taking a 2-0 lead before Beaton, with the aid of a 177, got off the mark on double eight in the third. However, Beaton missed three darts to level before double top gave Caven a 3-1 lead, and he hit the same bed and double 16 to take the next two before hitting a 180 and double two to wrap up a comprehensive win.
Co Stompe got back to winning ways, defeating Vincent van der Voort 6-4 for his third two-pointer of Group Six. Van der Voort led 2-1 early on, but paid for three missed doubles in the fourth, as Stompe levelled, hit a 180 and a 111 finish to lead 3-2 and another maximum in leg six. He also hit a 180 in the nexy, but a 57 finish from van der Voort pulled him back to 4-3. The next two were shared, but van der Voort missed two darts to level in leg ten and Stompe sealed the win.
Wayne Jones earned his third victory of Group Six, seeing off Jelle Klaasen 6-3. Klaasen came from a leg down to lead 3-2, before Jones hit back to level, and then took out finishes of 83 and 90 for a 5-3 lead before completing the win.

Fifth Round of Matches
Jelle Klaasen fired up his play-off challenge, defeating Dennis Priestley 6-3. The Dutch youngster Shared the opening four legs, hitting a 116 finish in the third, before bettering that checkout with a maximum 170 finish to lead 3-2. He then hit scores of 180 and 140 in taking the sixth, before double five gave Klaasen a 5-2 lead. Double top won Priestley his third leg of the match, but Klaasen landed the same bed in the next to seal victory.
Wayne Jones picked up a narrow 6-5 win over Adrian Lewis, who suffered a fourth loss of the day in Group Six. Lewis hit back from 2-1 down to lead 3-2, but missed a string of doubles in leg six as Jones posted double eight to level. The next two were shared before Lewis took out double top for a 5-4 lead - only to then miss two match darts as Jones levelled to force a decider, which he won on double 16 with the youngster waiting on a finish.
Steve Beaton battled back from 5-3 down to snatch victory against Co Stompe and move clear at the top of the Group Six table. Beaton held the early advantage before Stompe - who had earlier hit seven perfect darts in leg two - levelled in the fourth and took the first break in leg five, hitting a 180 and tops. Beaton hit back with a 70 finish, but two more legs for Stompe put him a leg away from the win. A brilliant 114 finish from Beaton was followed by double eight as he kept the game alive, and he sealed the win with double four in the decider.
Vincent van der Voort continued his challenge for a semi-final berth with a 6-3 defeat of Jamie Caven, who remains on two points alongside Adrian Lewis at the foot of the table. Caven shared the game's opening four legs, but finishes on double four from the Dutchman, for checkouts of 76 and 68, put him 4-2 up as misses in the sixth cost Caven. He also missed three darts for the seventh as van der Voort moved 5-2 up, and although Caven won the eighth the Dutchman - defying the pain from a bad back - sealed the win on double 16.

Sixth Round of Matches
Jamie Caven kept alive his hopes of avoiding elimination with a 6-5 defeat of Wayne Jones in a dramatic final-leg decider. Jones led 2-0, breaking throw in the first and taking out 96 for the second before Caven got off the mark with a 170 finish and took out double ten to level. A 12-dart finish moved him 3-2 up, before Jones took two of the next three to level at four-all. Double 16 put the Wolverhampton man 5-4 up, and double 12 from Caven sent the game into a decider. Jones was first to a finish despite a 180 from Caven, but he missed the bull for a 161 game shot, and Caven landed double ten for the points.
Co Stompe's play-off challenge continued with a 6-1 win over Dennis Priestley. The pair shared the opening two legs before Stompe took out 89 for the third leg and double 18 for a 3-1 lead. Double eight extended the gap to 4-1, and he edged further clear after Priestley missed a host of chances in the sixth, before sealing victory in the next.
Steve Beaton ensured a semi-final spot in his Championship League Darts debut, with a 6-3 win over Jelle Klaasen leaving the Dutchman vulnerable to elimination. The duo traded the first four legs, with Klaasen hitting a 140 finish in the fourth but only able to watch as Beaton took the next two, before the English ace took out a classy 110 finish of single 20, bull and double top in moving 5-3 up. Klaasen battled to get back into the game, but a 120 finish gave Beaton both points.
Vincent van der Voort produced his best display of Group Six, whitewashing Adrian Lewis with a fine display. Lewis had his chances early on, missing two darts in the opening leg, which the Dutchman won on double four. He took the second with a 97 finish and defied two 180s from Lewis to lead 3-0, before taking two more legs and then trading maximums in the next and landing double 16 for a whitewash.

Final Round of Matches
Jelle Klaasen ended Adrian Lewis' Championship League Darts challenge - and a 15-group unbroken run in the event - with a second successive whitewash of the Stoke ace. Lewis was defeated 6-0 by Vincent van der Voort in his penultimate game of the day, and it was a case of Double Dutch as Klaasen took victory in their contest. Double three gave Klaasen the first leg, after Lewis missed four darts at a double, wihle a 170 finish doubled his lead. Lewis missed again in the third before double one in the fourth allowed Klaasen to lead 4-0. He also won the fifth before Lewis' nightmare on the doubles saw him waste six darts to get on the scoreboard, and Klaasen ended his misery on double 16.
Wayne Jones secured his semi-final place with a 6-2 win over Dennis Priestley. Priestley took the opening leg of the game, but Jones raced into a 5-1 lead, including finishes of 96, 101 and 116. Priestley finished 130 on the bullseye for a second leg of the game, but Jones finished 92 for the win.
Vincent van der Voort's 6-4 win over Steve Beaton means he finishes top of the league table, pushing the former World Champion into second spot. The Dutchman took the first leg on double 15, before a brace of double eight finishes put Beaton 2-1 up. Van der Voort won the next three for a 4-2 lead only for the Dutchman to level, but he hit a 180 in the ninth and returned after a missed double top from Beaton - for a 145 finish - to land double 16 for the win.
Jamie Caven suffered elimination by one leg despite a 6-1 win over Co Stompe, who finishes fourth. Caven entered the game needing a whitewash win to knock out Dennis Priestley on Legs Won, and made a fine start to lead 3-0. Stompe, though, recovered from three misses in the previous leg to win the fourth on double five and get off the mark - also eliminating Caven on his debut in the event - but the Derby man rallied to post a 92 finish and the next two legs to take the win.

Semi-Finals
Vincent van der Voort battled from 3-2 down with four straight legs to defeat Co Stompe 6-3 and win through to the Group Six final. The Dutch pair shared the first six legs, with Stompe finishing 138 in the third and van der Voort taking out 108 - with his opponent sat on 44 after a 180 - in the sixth, before van der Voort claimed the first break in leg seven, taking out double 12 after the pair traded 180s. Double ten gave him a 5-3 lead, and double five sealed van der Voort's place in the decider.
Steve Beaton will compete in the Group Six final on his Championship League Darts debut, after defeating Wayne Jones 6-3. Beaton took the first two legs, but Jones came back in style with finishes of 61, 62 and 85 to lead 3-2. Beaton, though, took out 65 to level and hit a 177 and double six for the seventh leg, before punishing two missed doubles frmo Jones in the next two as he sealed victory with a 108 finish.

Final
Steve Beaton took debut glory in Group Six of Championship League Darts, defeating Vincent van der Voort 6-3.
