THE success of the first two PDC Unicorn Youth Tour events has led to an update of the operational rules for the tournaments.
Adam Hunt and Shaun Griffiths have taken the £600 first prize in each of the two PDC Unicorn Youth Tour events played so far, while Michael Smith hit a nine-dart finish during Saturday's second tournament in Barnsley.
The PDC and PDPA have introduced a rolling £200 per event nine-dart bonus for the 2011 PDC Unicorn Youth Tour, meaning Smith picked up £400 for his achievement in event two.
Players aged 14-21 are still able to enter for the next two PDC Unicorn Youth Tour events, which will be held in Wigan on Saturday March 12 and in Crawley on Saturday March 26.
The deadline for entering the tournaments is to return to 12pm on the Friday immediately before each event, for example 12pm on Friday March 11 for the Wigan event.
The demand for entries into the events means that there will also be no 128-player limit for future tournaments. Should a player need to withdraw after entering a tournament, they can do this via the PDC Head Office on 08712 501 180.
"The first two PDC Unicorn Youth Tour events have been hugely successful, with over 100 players competing in both tournaments and we are delighted with the response of young players in both the UK and Europe," said PDC Director Rod Harrington.
"Michael Smith's achievement in hitting a nine-darter in Saturday's event and then going on to win Sunday's UK Open Qualifier shows how valuable the PDC Unicorn Youth Tour is for these future stars of darts.
"The aim is to give as many young players as possible the chance to compete in professional events as the first step towards a future on the PDC ProTour."
