Ally Pally Event Finds Final Amateurs

THE final eight Speedy Qualifiers for the Speedy Services UK Open have been discovered following Wednesday's event at Alexandra Palace, including Austrian player Maik Langendorf.

The free-to-enter Speedy Qualifiers concluded with the fourth event held at one of the UK's most iconic sporting events, with London's Ally Pally - the home of the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship - following Glasgow's Hampden Park, Manchester's Old Trafford and the Wolverhampton Civic Hall in playing host to the UK Open's amateur qualifiers.

Players initially threw 15 darts in a bid to be one of the top 16 scores, before those players faced off over the best of three legs for the right to win through to the Speedy Services UK Open Televised Finals in Bolton from June 6-9.

Danny Pinhorne was the highest scorer as he notched 628 from his 15 darts, but he went down to Gillingham bricklayer Conan Whitehead in the knockout phase.

Steve Douglas also topped 600 as he totalled 611, but he also missed out on a Bolton place as he went down 2-0 to Swindon's Darrell Townsend, while Richard Gumble scored 570 but lost in the knockout stage to Orpington's Terry Dunford.

Austrian player Maik Langendorf, who has represented his country in the Betfair World Cup of Darts, made his journey to London worthwhile as he defeated former UK Open amateur qualifier Alan Casey 2-1 to win through to Bolton.

Witham's John Mortimer also qualified with a win over Peter Gallacher, while Bedfordshire-based Michael Burgoine makes his UK Open return after defeating Stuart Bull in their knockout.

There was disappointment, though, for former World Champion Keith Deller, who missed out for a second successive Speedy Qualifier, while top female player Deta Hedman - another former UK Open qualifier from her time on the PDC circuit - also failed in her bid to win a Bolton place.

The 32 Speedy Qualifiers will be joined in competing in June's UK Open Televised Finals by the top 96 (plus ties) professional players from the final UK Open Order of Merit, with the last two Qualifiers being held in Wigan this weekend.
