DAVE CHISNALL has set his sights on winning a place in the world's top four players, after claiming the biggest title of his career at the German Darts Championship.
The 32-year-old from St Helens picked up the £20,000 first prize in last weekend's European Tour event in Hildesheim, defeating Peter Wright 6-2 in the final to claim his seventh PDC victory.
Chisnall's success saw him jump from ninth to seventh in the PDC Order of Merit, moving above Justin Pipe and Wes Newton and he is now looking to take his form into next month's partypoker.com World Grand Prix and the year's remaining majors in a bid to break into the world's top four.
"I'm really proud of the win in Germany, and to move up to seventh is great for me," said Chisnall.
"I'm pleased. I want to keep climbing and hopefully I can get into that top four now. I just want to keep doing well in the floor competitions and the TV events, which I'm happy with at the moment.
"The European Tour events are like playing in a TV tournament anyway because you're on stage in front of big crowds, and they're amazing to play in.
"I want to do well in the majors in the next few months and hopefully this is the first of many big titles."
Chisnall had hit two 170 checkouts during the German Darts Championship, before storming past Wright in the final in Hildesheim - making amends for two previous defeats in European Tour finals last year.
"I had two good events last year where I got to the final but played Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld, but this was my time," he said. "It's the highlight of my career.
"It feels great and I'm delighted because I played well throughout the tournament.
"I had four 6-5 results in my first four games but some of those probably shouldn't have been 6-5, but that's darts and I don't mind as long as I win them! If I'd hit my doubles a bit better then it might have been easier for me."
Wright's run to the final earned him £10,000 prize money and moves him up to 17th in the world, meaning that he is on the brink of securing a place in the PDC's new 16-man event, The Masters, in Edinburgh in November.
The Scottish World Cup representative could even break into the top 16 at this weekend's Players Championship events in Barnsley, having begun the year 26th in the PDC Order of Merit.
"I've had a great year so far but I want to keep pushing now," said Wright, a semi-finalist in June's UK Open who also won a Players Championship event this summer.
"Getting into the top 16 would be brilliant and I'd love to go on and be the highest ranked Scot if I can get above Robert Thornton.
"I believe that I could get into the top ten by the end of the year, but the challenge is to do that on the dartboard. I've worked so hard on my game since the World Championship and it's paying off."
