THE field for the partypoker.com World Grand Prix will be finalised following the German Darts Masters event in Sindelfingen this weekend.
The annual double-start World Grand Prix will be held for a 16th time at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin from October 7-13, as 32 players compete in the unique double-start tournament.
The field for the event will be headed by the top 16 players from the PDC Order of Merit following this weekend's German Darts Masters European Tour event, with the top eight players seeded for the first round draw.
They are joined by the top 14 non-qualified players from the ProTour Order of Merit, based on prize money won in 2013, alongside the leading two nationals of Ireland/Northern Ireland.
Dave Chisnall's recent rise to seventh in the rankings, following his recent victories in Germany and Barnsley, mean that he is set to be seeded in the World Grand Prix.
Ten-time champion Phil Taylor will be the number one seed, with reigning champion Michael van Gerwen set to be the number two seed for the defence of his title, with former finalist Adrian Lewis seeded third.
Simon Whitlock, James Wade, Andy Hamilton and Wes Newton are also set to be seeded, with Justin Pipe needing to win this weekend's German Darts Masters if he is to oust Newton from the top eight.
Terry Jenkins' place as 16th in the current PDC Order of Merit could come under threat from Peter Wright, Gary Anderson, Paul Nicholson or Ronnie Baxter this weekend, although the Ledbury ace, a former World Grand Prix finalist, could still qualify through the ProTour Order of Merit.
Wright, Jamie Caven, John Part and Ian White, all tournament winners this year, head the current 14 ProTour Order of Merit qualifiers, alongside Nicholson, Stuart Kellett, Anderson, Steve Beaton, Baxter, Andy Smith, Colin Lloyd, Jelle Klaasen, Richie Burnett and Jamie Lewis.
Connie Finnan and Michael Mansell are the current two 'home' qualifiers from the ProTour Order of Merit, although Daryl Gurney's run to the German Darts Championship quarter-finals recently has put him just £100 behind Mansell - with both in action in Sindelfingen this weekend!
The draw for the partypoker.com World Grand Prix is expected to be made following the conclusion of the German Darts Masters and the confirmation of qualifiers on Sunday evening.
