Part Amongst PDC Spectacular Qualifiers

THREE-TIME World Champion John Part has headed the field of qualifiers for the PDC Spectacular event in Canada, with north American players competing over the weekend in Kingston, Ontario.

A series of four qualifying events being held to each produce eight qualifiers for Sunday afternoon's $15,000 PDC Spectacular at the Ambassador Hotel & Conference Center.

Part was one of the eight players who won through from Friday night's Qualifier One, as he defeated Ron Schmidt, Fred Morganroth and Steve Warnock to progress.

He was joined by his Canadian team-mate in June's Bwin World Cup of Darts, Shaun Narain, who also qualified as he seeks to continue his emergence.

Larry Butler, the 1994 World Matchplay champion, also qualified alongside former UK Open finalist Gary Mawson, former Las Vegas Desert Classic qualifier Chris White, Guy Connelly, Doug Boehm and Gary Broomhead.

Saturday's Qualifier Two saw top Canadian ace Ken MacNeil progress, alongside experienced ace Bob Sinnaeve, Dave Switzer, Andre Carman, Bernie Miller, Norm Tremblay, DJ Sayre and Gordon Dixon.

Leading American thrower Darin Young won through Qualifier Three without dropping a set as he progressed, alongside experienced Terry Hayhurst, Dave Richardson, Gord Mills, Martin Tremblay, Ryan Vander Weit, Ron Smith and Jim Long.

Sunday morning in Canada sees the Qualifier Four held to determine the final eight players, before the PDC Spectacular itself is held on Sunday afternoon, with $3,200 plus a place in the William Hill World Championship on offer for the winner.
