The £115,000 event kicks off the year's European Tour season, with 48 players competing across three days at Halle 39.
Thursday night's Host Nation Qualifier saw new German star Sascha Stein - who reached the second round of the William Hill World Championship - win through to make his European Tour debut, alongside Maik Langendorf, Bernd Roith and another new face, Daniel Zygla.
The first round is split across two sessions on Friday as the event's 32 qualifiers face off.
The 16 seeded players - the leading 16 players from the ProTour Order of Merit - then enter at the second round stage on Saturday.
The tournament then concludes on Sunday, with the afternoon session's third round followed in the evening session by the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
