Obukhov Enjoys Russian Double

ROMAN OBUKHOV continued his superb start to the Russian EADC ProTour with victory in both events on the second weekend of the season.

Obukhov had shared victories in the inaugural weekend with Alexey Kadochnikov, but did the double at the Omega Plaza in Moscow by winning the third and fourth tournaments.

Obukhov's win in Event Three included a 6-3 semi-final victory over Maksim Belov in a repeat of the Event Two final, before he went on to defeat Alexander Oreshkin by the same scoreline in the final.

Oreshkin had edged out Boris Koltsov - the Russian qualifier for the 2015 World Championship - with a 6-5 quarter-final win and overcame Kadochnikov in a deciding leg in the semi-finals, hitting a key 180 to set up double 19 for the win.

Oreshkin led in the final before Obukhov took the next three to put himself in command at 3-1, and he went on to complete the victory.

The pair also met in the Event Four final 24 hours later, with Obukhov claiming a 6-0 whitewash win as he completed the double.

Obukhov also edged out Belov 6-5 as they met in the semi-finals, coming from 4-1 down to claim the deciding leg.
