Six To Maintain Ever-Present Record

James Wade - Coral UK Open (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

SIX players will maintain their ever-present records at the Coral UK Open when they compete at the Butlins Minehead Resort this weekend.

The previous 14 years of the UK Open, since the tournament's introduction in 2003, had seen eight players compete in every event when the 2016 event was held last March.

However, with five-time champion Phil Taylor not competing in this year's UK Open Qualifiers as he begins to wind down his illustrious career and Dennis Smith failing to qualify this time around, the list of ever-presents is reduced to just six players.

James Wade is the only player of the six to have previously won the tournament, following his successes in 2008 and 2011.

Veteran star Terry Jenkins, who is also beginning to wind down his career, was the 2014 runner-up to Adrian Lewis, while Steve Beaton and Kevin Painter are former semi-finalists.

Wayne Jones and Alex Roy have both reached the quarter-finals on two occasions, with the latter maintaining his ever-present record this year as a Rileys Amateur Qualifier.

2014 champion Lewis has made 13 successive appearances since making his breakthrough in 2004 by qualifying for his first televised PDC tournament.

Ronnie Baxter had seen his ever-present record ended when he failed to qualify last year after competing in every UK Open from 2003-2015, with the former semi-finalist back amongst the field this weekend to match Lewis with a 14th appearance.

2017 is the first year that Wes Newton has failed to qualify for the UK Open since 2003, however the Fleetwood ace - the 2011 runner-up - had to withdraw from the 2014 event after being struck down with tonsillitis.

Brendan Dolan is making his 13th UK Open appearance this weekend, having competed in 2003 and 2004 before missing the next two years ahead of his move onto the circuit full-time in 2007.

2004 semi-finalist Andy Jenkins is another player to have recorded a dozen UK Open appearances, missing only the 2010 and 2014 tournaments, while Steve Maish's qualification as an amateur last year saw him also record a 12th challenge in the tournament.
