DAVE CHISNALL continued his fine form as he whitewashed Nathan Aspinall in Saturday's HappyBet German Darts Open second round in Saarbrucken on Saturday.
Chisnall, a European Tour winner in 2013, followed up his two victories in the Betway Premier League on Thursday with another 104 average to see off the former World Youth Championship finalist in style.
After breaking in the first leg, the 36-year-old fired back-to-back 180s in the second to seize control of the final game of the evening session at the Saarlandhalle.
Chisnall was also proving clinical on his finishing, landing 50% of his doubles as he raced to a convincing victory in just ten minutes.
Jelle Klaasen also secured a whitewash victory with a flawless display of finishing as he beat compatriot Christian Kist.
The Dutch star took out checkouts of 114 and 86 on his way to landing 100% of his doubles as he quickly reached the third round.
World Champion Michael van Gerwen was made to work for his place in the third round in a tough affair with Ronny Huybrechts as the top seed began his bid to win a second successive European Tour event.
Belgian qualifier Huybrechts started superbly, and missed darts to move into a 3-0 lead.
After a sluggish start though, Van Gerwen found top gear to clinch five legs in a row to take command before finishing as an eventual 6-3 winner with a 102 average.
German teenager Nico Blum was given a harsh lesson by Spain’s Cristo Reyes in a 6-1 defeat in the first game of the evening session, after the 16-year-old had made a winning European Tour debut in Friday's first round.
Reyes stormed into a 5-0 lead, before home favourite Blum landed tops to get his first and only leg on the board, but it was not enough to prevent the number 15 seed closing out the win.
UK Open champion Peter Wright made his way into the third round in similarly convincing fashion as he beat Krzysztof Ratajski by the same 6-1 scoreline.
Wright raced to a 5-0 lead and took out 102 in the process, before Polish qualifier Ratajski found some respite with an excellent 118 checkout to clinch his only leg.
The world number three then landed a 72 checkout to secure victory and finish with 75% on his doubles alongside a 101 average.
Number three seed Mensur Suljovic clinched four legs in a row to beat Mark Walsh 6-2.
The pair traded the opening four legs, before the Austrian found his form to press his advantage and reach the final day in Saarbrucken.
Elsewhere, Joe Cullen beat Vincent van der Voort 6-4 and Benito van de Pas beat Paul Nicholson 6-3 to reach the third round.
Earlier in the day, Gerwyn Price and James Richardson played out arguably the most entertaining game of the competition so far in a dramatic contest.
Price started superbly, capitalising on every Richardson mistake to race into a 5-0 lead and look set for a convincing victory.
Richardson then nearly produced the most remarkable of comebacks, clinching the next five legs to force a decider in which he missed seven darts for the match, before Price landed double ten to progress.
In an afternoon in which four seeded players crashed out, Rob Cross continued his bright start on the professional circuit as he beat Michael Smith 6-2.
It could have been quite the different story for Smith however, as he landed just 11% of his doubles in a sloppy display of finishing, gifting Cross - already a Players Championship winner this year - the opportunity to progress.
Mervyn King produced the biggest checkout of the day as he beat Kim Huybrechts 6-3.
With the players locked following six legs, King then landed checkouts of 72, 76 and a huge 142 to move into the third round at the expense of the Belgian.
Alan Norris was sent packing as he put in a poor display to succumb to a 6-2 defeat to Dimitri Van den Bergh, whilst Adam Hunt edged out Steve West 6-4.
Stephen Bunting clinched six straight legs as he breezed past home favourite Bernd Roith.
The German clinched the opening leg but struggled massively on his doubles, hitting just 9% as Bunting quickly collected the required legs to book his place in the third round.
Ian White posted an impressive 103.15 average in victory over Warrick Scheffer.
The South African clinched the opening leg with an impressive 117 checkout, but then White rattled off four straight legs to put himself into a commanding position before sealing victory with a 105 outshot.
Having tasted defeat in their last two meetings, Simon Whitlock would have been fearing the worst when he saw Darren Webster race into a 3-0 lead in their contest.
However, the Australian began to find his doubles and produced an expert comeback - clinching six legs in a row to secure victory and a place in the next round.
The HappyBet German Darts Open concludes on Sunday, with the third round taking place in the afternoon session, before the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final in the evening.
The HappyBet German Darts Open will be broadcast online for PDCTV-HD Subscribers worldwide through www.livepdc.tv, and also streamed through a series of bookmakers' websites.
