WILLIAM O'CONNOR tasted victory on the Alexandra Palace stage for the first time with a 3-0 whitewash of Yordi Meeuwisse.
A strong start from O'Connor saw him break the Meeuwisse throw in the opening leg and, despite a magnificent 133 checkout from the Dutchman, O'Connor wrapped up the opening set 3-1.
Both the second and third sets went to deciding legs, with the Irish World Cup star holding his nerve on both occasions to wrap up a comfortable win, and he will now meet James Wilson in the second round.
