MICHAEL SMITH progressed into the third round of the William Hill World Championship with a 3-1 victory over Ron Meulenkamp at Alexandra Palace on Wednesday.
Smith took out 112 in the opening leg before going on to take the first set 3-1.
Meulenkamp finished 96 to level the second set at one leg apiece but Smith responded in style with a sublime 132 checkout on the way to another 3-1 set win.
A 100 finish helped Meulenkamp clinch the third set but a brilliant bullseye to finish 81 set Premier League runner-up Smith well on his way to finishing the job.
The St Helens star will take on either John Henderson or Gabriel Clemens in the third round.
