STEVE WEST progressed into the third round of the WIlliam Hill World Championship with a 3-1 success over Richard North at Alexandra Palace.
North missed darts to force the match into a deciding set and West, whose superior finishing proved to be the difference, punished.
West took the first set, using just 47 darts to reel off three straight legs before a brilliant 164 checkout helped him win the second set 3-2.
A 124 finish helped West level the third set at 2-2 but North took the deciding leg on double 12 to halve the match deficit.
The fourth set also reached a fifth leg but when North missed three darts to force a deciding set, West made no mistake in pinning tops for the victory.
