Sky Sports commentary colleague Rod Studd
So sad to read this news. I’ve many fond memories of Gwynnie. He could make the most mundane football match sound like a World Cup final. The commentary with Sid on the last leg of the Barney-Taylor final remains the finest broadcasting I’ve ever heard. A true maestro of the mic https://t.co/pB8SffVMPR

RIP John Gwynne. A man inextricably linked to darts just as Sid was, but also loved his football and especially his beloved MCFC. Unmistakable in the commentary box and right there front and centre for some of darts’ greatest moments. He will be much missed x

Broadcaster John Bradley
John Gwynne took time to help a hapless young broadcaster in the press box at Old Trafford many, many moons ago. He made sure I had all the tools I needed at my first cricket match working. He didn’t need to do it, but he did. A real gentleman. A titan of sports broadcasting.

Gwynney could commentate on anything. I remember we sent him to commentate on the Lancs cricket team playing 5-aside footy in the Indoor Centre after rain stopped play. He made it sound like a playoff final with “Watkinson, the Bolton Wanderer” scoring the winner. #johngwynne pic.twitter.com/Rk9eNFUpTD
