Sweeting makes history to confirm World Championship debut

Rashad Sweeting (CDLC)

Rashad Sweeting will make history at the 2024/25 Paddy Power World Darts Championship when he becomes the first player from the Bahamas to compete in the sport’s flagship event.

Sweeting sealed his qualification via the Championship Darts Latin America and Caribbean Order of Merit, winning two of the four events held in 2024.

The opening weekend of CDLC action took place in Jamaica back in July, as Sweeting claimed a title apiece alongside Guyana’s Norman Madhoo, who topped the 2023 standings.

However, Sweeting cemented top spot on the final weekend of action, which took place in the Chilean capital of Santiago on October 5-6.

Sweeting stormed to Event Three victory on Saturday, dispatching Madhoo’s World Cup partner Sudesh Fitzgerald 6-1 to double his title tally for 2024.

He was denied back-to-back titles on Sunday by Chile’s Guillermo Soto, who recovered from 5-3 down to triumph on home soil and secure his maiden CDLC title in the process.

There were just two points separating the trio of Fitzgerald, Soto and Madhoo in the final standings, although Sweeting boasted a 16-point buffer at the summit, as he prepares to fulfil his darting dreams in December.
