Stowe Buntz began his defence of the CDC Continental Cup title in impressive fashion ahead of Saturday's final stages in Philadelphia.
Buntz was a 5-2 winner against Canadian legend John Part as he opened his bid to retain the title with a 92.02 average.
That was the highest of day one in Philadelphia, as Buntz set up a quarter-final tie with Jacob Taylor, who won his all-Canadian opener with Steve Warnock 5-3.
Alex Spellman averaged 91.59 in his impressive first round defeat of Joey Lynaugh, and he now meets Adam Sevada - who saw off former World Matchplay winner Larry Butler by the same scoreline.
Top seed Leonard Gates now meets Doug Boehm in the quarter-finals, while top-ranked Canadian Jim Long faces Jake Womack.
Saturday night sees the final stages take place in Philadelphia - with coverage streamed live on PDCTV.
