Belgium’s Lex Paeshuyse created history at Alexandra Palace on Saturday, defeating Daniel Stephenson 5-1 to become the youngest ever JDC World Junior Champion.
The 13-year-old produced a brilliant display on the sport's biggest stage, averaging 90 and pinning five of his eight attempts at double to deny 16-year-old Stephenson.
Following three consecutive holds to kick off the contest, Paeshuyse put together a brilliant burst to triumph, following up back-to-back 14-darters with an 86 finish on the bull to cap off a superb display.
"I'm actually over the moon," reflected the 13-year-old, who is aiming to emulate his compatriots Dimitri Van den Bergh and Mike De Decker, who have both won televised titles in 2024.
"I didn't think I was going to win the final, so I'm very proud of myself. It feels very good to make history!
"I have taken a lot of inspiration from Dimitri and Mike. Dimitri was here today and he's helped me in the last few days, so I am very thankful for those guys.
Luke Littler - a two-time JDC Junior World Champion - was also on hand to present Paeshuyse with the trophy, and the young Belgian admits it would be a dream to follow in Littler's footsteps.
"Luke is an idol for me, so I was very happy that he could hand over the trophy to me," he added.
"I hope I can follow in his footsteps, but it's not going to be easy!"
The earlier rounds of the JDC World Championship were held in Gibraltar last month, and Paeshuyse overcame Ryan Branley, Kendji Steinbach, Jack Nankervis, Jamie French and Mongolia's Tergel Khurelkhuu to reach the final.
Meanwhile, Stephenson - who followed in the footsteps of his father Mark by competing on the Alexandra Palace stage - saw off Benjamin Goddard, Bradley van der Velden, Kieran Thompson, Archie Self and Drake Porter in last month's qualifying event.
