Price thrilled to return to winning ways in BetMGM Premier League

Gerwyn Price believes he’s starting to get the rewards for his performances after storming to victory on Night Three of the BetMGM Premier League in Dublin on Thursday.

Price came out on top on a thrilling night at the 3Arena, defeating the world’s top two players in Luke Humphries and Luke Littler, before seeing off Nathan Aspinall to triumph on the Emerald Isle.

The 39-year-old has been one of the sport’s stand-out performers in the early stages of 2025, reaching a World Series final in Bahrain, while also scooping a Players Championship title earlier this month.

Price maintained his eye-catching form with a trio of victories in the Irish capital, as he secured his first nightly Premier League victory since April 2023.

“It was a great night for me,” reflected 2023 table-topper Price, who endured a frustrating campaign 12 months ago.

“I felt like I was playing pretty well last year, but I wasn’t getting the results.

“I was missing a couple of chances on the doubles and getting punished for it.

“That doesn’t seem to be happening this year. I’m taking my chances, I’m playing really well and the results are coming.”

Price kicked off Thursday’s play with an eye-catching 6-4 success against reigning champion Littler – his fifth consecutive win against the teenage sensation.

The 2021 World Champion followed this up by landing 116, 120 and 170 finishes in a 6-3 win over world number one Humphries, winning six of the last seven legs to prevail.

This set up a showdown against Aspinall for the Night Three crown, and Price capped off a memorable night by winning four straight legs in 14, 13, 14 and 13 darts to overturn a 3-2 deficit.

“I started the night off really well,” reflected Price, who moves up to second in the Premier League table, three points adrift of league leader Humphries.

“I’m not sure what it is but Luke Littler seems to bring the best out of me, so that was a great game to come through.

“Obviously it was Luke Humphries next. I think the crowd partly got me through that game. It felt like I was playing in Cardiff again which was nice.

“I started a little bit slowly against Nathan [Aspinall] in the final. I missed a couple of opportunities but I found my feet and I managed to put it to bed.

“I’m glad I got to the final and I’m sure Nathan is as well. [We are] two players that were questioned about being in the Premier League, but we’re probably proving people wrong!”

Price will renew his rivalry with Humphries in the Night Four quarter-finals in Exeter on Thursday February 27, as the league’s top two go head-to-head for a third consecutive week.

However, the Welshman believes he must raise his game to another level if he’s to challenge for the biggest honours on a consistent basis.

“When you do come up against Luke [Littler] and Luke [Humphries] at their best, then you do need to combine the scoring and finishing,” Price continued.

“I think I finished with a 102 average in the first game against Luke Littler. It’s a good game, but you need to be performing at a better standard if you want to win major titles.

“I’m just happy to get a win though. It’s five vital points for me early on in the Premier League, and it gives me a good boost leading into Exeter next week.”
