Rafferty completes ET5-6 qualification double in Leicester

Nathan Rafferty (PDC)

Nathan Rafferty completed a European Tour qualification double in Leicester on Wednesday, as German trio Gabriel Clemens, Max Hopp and Leon Weber sealed their return to home soil.

Wednesday's double-header saw Tour Card Holder Qualifiers for European Tour Events 5-6 take place at the Mattioli Arena, with each qualifier producing ten players per event.

The Austrian Darts Open (ET5) will be held at the Premstättner Halle in Graz from April 25-27, while the European Darts Grand Prix (ET6) takes place in Sindelfingen from May 2-4.

Rafferty was the solitary player to secure qualification for both events, as the young Northern Irishman won six consecutive matches to cap off a successful afternoon in the East Midlands.

William O’Connor was the stand-out performer in the ET5 Qualifier, registering back-to-back 107 averages against Adam Warner and Jelle Klaasen to book his place in Graz later this month.

Fresh from reaching his first ProTour final since 2020 on Monday, Ian White continued his fine form to secure his place at the Austrian Darts Open, where he will be joined by Germany’s Niko Springer.

Dutch duo Berry van Peer and Chris Landman will also feature alongside Grand Slam of Darts semi-finalist Mickey Mansell, Canadian number one Matt Campbell and Czech star Karel Sedlacek.

Tom Bissell completed the list of qualifiers for Graz, closing out hard-fought victories against Martin Lukeman, Thomas Lovely and Cam Crabtree to confirm his European Tour debut.

The nine players who will join Rafferty in next month’s European Darts Grand Prix include German trio Clemens, Hopp and Weber, who performed superbly to seal their spots in Sindelfingen.

Clemens averaged 103 to triumph in his winner-takes-all clash against Rob Owen, while Hopp toppled Brendan Dolan, Alan Soutar and O’Connor to qualify for his first European Tour event since regaining his Tour Card in January.

Weber, meanwhile, recorded a hat-trick of 6-3 wins to secure his European Tour debut, with Poland’s Krzysztof Ratajski averaging over a ton to confirm his place at the Glaspalast.

Dirk van Duijvenbode and Niels Zonneveld also impressed in winning through the ET6 Qualifier, alongside World Championship quarter-finalist Callan Rydz and former World Youth Champion Bradley Brooks.

Connor Scutt will also star in Sindelfingen after following up a 105 average against Cor Dekker with a 6-1 demolition of White, who landed a nine-darter against Dennie Olde Kalter earlier in the event.

European Tour events will now see 16 seeds from the PDC Order of Merit exempt to the last 32 for each tournament, with the first round seeing 16 ProTour Order of Merit qualifiers drawn against the other 16 qualifiers.
