BARBADOS is to host two major darts tournaments in 2006, with July's Caribbean Cup preceding the Barbados Darts Festival in October.
Darts in the Caribbean has been boosted by the involvement of players in the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship in recent years.
This year, one player from the Caribbean, Central and South America will win a place in the PDPA Qualifiers for the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.
The player will be the winner of the Caribbean & South American Masters, which will be held between the Caribbean Cup and Americas Cup events in Barbados from 14-24 July. Winston Cadogan (right) was the 2005 champion.
Late October will see the fifth Brydons Barbados Darts Festival take place over 11 days.
The festival will be hosted by three-time World Champion John Lowe (below) and features a number of events for men, women and youths and is open to tourists as well as players from across the Caribbean and America.
"These events show how far Barbados has come in the past four years as a venue for hosting major darts events," said Barbados Darts Festival spokesman Michael Heal.
"The backing of the PDC, the Barbados Tourism Authority, our sponsors and the players from around the world has also been crucial in these developments.
"Exciting things are happening in the Caribbean and staging our qualifier for a place the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship PDPA Qualifiers at the same time as the Caribbean Cup will allow more players than ever to enter.
"Later in the year players and fans will have the chance to join the legendary John Lowe for the Barbados Darts Festival, which will again be a popular event."
