Burnett Wins William Cross Pro-Am

RICHIE BURNETT won the first ever Park Trent Properties William Cross Pro-Am in Australia on Sunday with an 8-4 win over Wayne Weening.

The tournament, ranked on the AGP circuit, saw Burnett, Bob Anderson, Keith Deller and Jamie Harvey head to New South Wales to compete against Australia's top players in the country's biggest ever event.

Four days of qualifiers were held for players to earn their place in the stage finals against the PDC stars, with Burnett eventually emerging victorious.

He won 8-4 in the final at Dapto Leagues Club against Victoria-based Weening, with the Welshman pulling away after the early legs were closely contested.

Weening ended the hopes of last year's AGP winner, Brian Roach, in the semi-finals after earlier winning 6-5 against Scotland's Jamie Harvey.

Roach, a 2006 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship qualifier, knocked out Keith Deller 6-4 in the quarters.

In the race for points at the top of the AGP table, Barry Jouannet gained ground on Anthony Fleet by reaching the last 16 of the event to pick up six points.

Jouannet picked up two points more than Fleet, who made the last 32, and is now just four points behind going into the final AGP-ranked event at Prospect, NSW on 23 and 24 September.

Should the pair be locked together after this tournament, they would play off over the best of 17 legs prior to the Oceanic Masters to determine the AGP representative at this year's World Championship.
