FIVE further International Qualifiers have won their Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship places.
The 2011 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship, to be held from December 16-January 3 at Alexandra Palace in London, will feature 72 players from around the world competing for £1 million in prize money.
South Africa's Devon Petersen and Ireland's Michael Mansell have already secured their places at Alexandra Palace following knockout events in their country recently.
Several further countries have now confirmed their qualifier for the tournament, following the completing of qualifying events around the world.
Rob Modra and Shane Tichowitsch will represent Australia, having finished as the top two players on the 2010 Australian Grand Prix Order of Merit this year.
Modra's early-season form gave him what proved an unassailable lead at the top of the Order of Merit, while Tichowitsch qualifies as the second-placed player, after Simon Whitlock won the Oceanic Masters event in the summer, which would have provided another qualifier.
Preston Ridd has qualified as New Zealand's National Champion, following his win over Steven Padget in the National Championship at the end of the NZCCDA and DPNZ series of events.
Japan's qualifier is Morihiro Hashimoto (pictured above), the 33-year-old from Okayama who had lost to Haruki Muramatsu in the final of last year's PDJ qualifier but avenged that defeat on his way to victory this year.
Hashimoto, nicknamed 'The Ogre' overcame Muramatsu 5-3 in the quarter-finals, defeated Kenichi Aijiki 5-2 in the semi-finals and then whitewashed Mitsumasa Hoshino 6-0 to win the final.
Meanwhile, Juanito 'Boy' Gionson (pictured right, centre) has won the Philippines' Qualifier, which was played in two stages, with four regional knockouts held around the Philippines followed by the National Finals.
Gionson was amongst eight qualifiers from the NCr/Metro Manila Qualifier, before he went on two win through the last 32, defeating Andy Lou Villamor in 3-1 in sets in the final.
Further qualifying events are being held in the coming weeks as players bid to win a World Championship place, with European-based events including Denmark. Sweden, Finland, Germany joined by the Caribbean & South American Masters.
There will also be a PDPA Qualifier on Monday November 29 in Derby for PDPA members - who have not qualified through one of the Orders of Merit - to win one spot in the event.
