Hazel & Clegg Share DPA Wins

PHILLIP HAZEL and Mitchell Clegg won the final two DPA tournaments of 2010 in Unanderra, NSW.

Kiwi Hazel defeated DPA Order of Merit leader Rob Modra 6-3 in the final of Saturday's event to pick up the $1,000 title.

Hazel, a qualifier for the Las Vegas Desert Classic and Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship in 2009, whitewashed Greg Clegg in the last 16 and defeated Jerry Weyman 6-4 in the quarter-finals.

He overcame a former World Championship qualifier, Brian Roach, in a deciding leg in the semis, before then defeating Modra in the decider.

The Kiwi was a 6-3 quarter-final loser to Mitchell Clegg in Sunday's event, as the youngster swept through the field to take the title.

Clegg was a 6-1 winner over Joel Hynd in the last 16, and followed his win over Hazel with a 6-3 defeat of Jerry Weyman in the semis and a 6-2 win over Dave Breasley in the final.

The win sets Clegg up in style for his visit to the UK in November, when he will be Australia's representative in the PDC Unicorn Under-21 World Championship at Barnsley.
