Home Comforts For Anderson

GARY ANDERSON is hoping that a return to Scottish soil can help kick-start his Betway Premier League challenge.

The reigning Premier League champion has yet to pick up a victory so far this season, having missed the opening week through illness before suffering defeats to Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen since his return.

Anderson faces 2014 Premier League winner Raymond van Barneveld at the GE Oil & Gas Arena on Thursday night, having won four and drawn one of his previous five matches at the Aberdeen venue since entering the tournament in 2011.

"I get nervous sometimes when I play at home, in fact all of the time, but if support like that from your own people doesn’t spur you on, nothing will," Anderson told the Daily Record.

"It has been a bit stop-start this year, to be honest. Thankfully, I'm getting there and I'm going to need to be back on song because Barney is capable of some brilliant stuff.

"He beat Phil in Leeds, so that shows you and I've had some titanic battles with him over the years.

"Barney’s CV speaks for itself, so it’s going to take a perfect performance with no mistakes to get my first points of the league season, which I could be doing with."
