'Nappy Factor' Inspiring Webster

MARK WEBSTER is hoping that sport's fabled 'nappy factor' can inspire his return up the PDC rankings, as he prepares for his partypoker.com World Grand Prix second round tie with Adrian Lewis.

The Welsh star has slipped to 31st in the PDC Order of Merit over the past 18 months since reaching the quarter-finals at the 2014 World Championship.

That run is his only individual major quarter-final since he was the runner-up in the 2011 Players Championship Finals, with the left-hander battling to regain the form which saw him win the Lakeside Championship and compete in the Premier League.

Webster showed encouraging signs in his first round win over Stephen Bunting at the partypoker.com World Grand Prix on Sunday, and faces Adrian Lewis in Tuesday night's second round in Dublin.

The Welshman has revealed that the birth of daughter Ella earlier this year has given him a renewed lease of life - and hopes that he can use the 'nappy factor' as the launchpad for a return to the top.

The 'nappy factor' was initially discussed in golf after a number of stars - including Phil Mickelson, Zach Johnson and Tiger Woods - followed the birth of a child with major success, but has also been seen in darts with the renaissance of Gary Anderson, who has become World Champion and Premier League champion since his son Tai was born in 2014.

"I've been away from the big stage for a while and it was a big game on Sunday," said Webster. "I'm in the last 16 of a major tournament after that win, so I'm happy with that.

"I'm the world number 30 at the minute and I don't claim to be the world number eight or anything, but I think I'm better than the world number 30 and I've got to prove it, so this is a step in the right direction.

"I'm a bit more chilled out now - you fall so far that you can't fall any further.

"I'm married now and I've got a daughter so you're caring for other people now and I've got a bit of a different perspective.

"I didn't have a great weekend ahead of the World Grand Prix in the Players Championships and I went back to my hotel room in a mood and as soon as I've seen my daughter and my wife it's cheered me up a bit.

"Look at Gary Anderson - he wasn't struggling in the same way as me but he wasn't achieving what he wanted to, but his little boy's come along and he's the World Champion and Premier League champion.

"I'm not saying I'm going to do that, but I can achieve bigger things in this game and hopefully I will do and I'm brimming with confidence."
