Roach On Course For Purfleet

AUSTRALIAN qualifier Brian Roach has revealed his excitement ahead of his participation in the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

Roach won the series of Australian Grand Prix events to be one of the two Antipodean qualifiers at the Circus Tavern next month.

The New South Wales representative does not yet know who his opponent in the first round will be, but has already stepped up his preparation.

"All is going well," he said. "I am trying to get on the board a couple of hours a day when possible and I'm watching a few dart tapes to get the feel of the occasion.

"I cant wait to get over there, this will be the biggest game I have played in and I will be striving to give it my best and go as far as I can.

"Whatever happens I will come back a better dart player, and my main aim at this time is to win my first game and take it from there.

"In this sort of field I think you have to take it one game at a time."

Roach succeeds Barry Jouannet and Simon Whitlock in appearing in Purfleet, and after being the winner at five AGP events praised the new tournament.

"I think this is a great innovation for Australian darts," he said. "You know if you do well you will qualify for the World Championship.

"I'm sure this will grow over the next couple of years and be very competitive and I think more venues and sponsors will support it as it grows to become a very important part of Australian darts."
