Taylor: Room For Improvement

PHIL TAYLOR believes he still has work to do if he is to claim a 14th World Championship crown in January.

Taylor has claimed every honour in the sport during a majestic career, adding a seventh SkyBet World Grand Prix crown with a 7-4 defeat of Terry Jenkins on Sunday.

He also has taken an unsurpassed 13 World Championship titles, and will be hoping to add another when this year's Ladbrokes.com-sponsored tournament begins in December.

"I want it very much," he said. "I'm going to practice a little bit differently this time.

"I was slowing my style down for this event and hitting right on the wires and it was bugging me. I was trying different stances and slowing up or speeding down.

"A lot of my darts were very good against Terry but I didn't hit the big scores that I normally do. I'll have to work on that now."

Taylor admits there will be no shortage of challengers in the World Championship, with Raymond van Barneveld expected to lead the field at the Circus Tavern.

"There's Raymond and another player coming through in Dennis Priestley. There aren't any easy games and there shouldn't be any either.

"There shouldn't be walkovers in any sport and the game is now very difficult.

"I want to win every tournament I play in. I'm a winner and I don't like losing.

"The World Championship is very special. The whole circuit is massive and it's a great game to be in.

"There's a lot of pressure on me, everybody expects me to just turn up and win but it doesn't work like that.

"I'm absolutely shattered, more so than ever at the end of a tournament."
