BDO Quartet Accept Grand Slam Places

BDO QUARTET ACCEPT SINGHA BEER GRAND SLAM OF DARTS INVITATIONS

SCOTT MITCHELL, Martin Adams and Geert De Vos are set to make their SINGHA Beer Grand Slam of Darts debuts this year after accepting invitations alongside Martin Phillips to compete in Wolverhampton.

The quartet will form half of the eight players representing the BDO system in the £450,000, 32-player tournament, which will be held from November 7-15 at The Wolves Civic.

Welsh left-hander Phillips (pictured) has previously competed three times in the Grand Slam of Darts, and will return to this year's event after being invited following his victory in the 2014 World Masters.

2015 Lakeside World Championship winner Scott Mitchell, runner-up Martin Adams and 2015 World Trophy winner Geert De Vos have also been invited to compete in the tournament.

All four have confirmed their acceptance and will compete in Wolverhampton in November alongside a further four BDO Qualifiers, who will come from qualifying events to be held in Hull on October 6 and in Europe on October 18.

"It's great news that these four players will be competing in the SINGHA Beer Grand Slam of Darts," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"The involvement of BDO players has always given an added dimension to this tournament and I'm sure that this will be the case in 2015 with all eight players, in particular the reigning Lakeside Champion Scott Mitchell.

"We will also welcome Martin Adams to Wolverhampton for the first time, and I'm sure he'll relish the chance to lock horns with the likes of Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen in such a great venue."

Adams has previously played in the PDC's World Matchplay in 2000 and 2001, at the 2001 World Grand Prix and in the revived News of the World Championship in 1997, where he reached the semi-finals.

Scott Waites is the only BDO player to have previously won the Grand Slam of Darts title, having come from 8-0 down to defeat James Wade 16-12 in the 2010 final.

Both Mitchell and Adams confirmed their acceptance on Twitter on Tuesday.
