Luke Littler has been awarded Honorary Citizenship of the Borough of Warrington in recognition of his World Darts Championship triumph.
The teenage sensation has enjoyed an incredible breakthrough in the sport, reaching the 2023/24 World Darts Championship final in his debut campaign at Alexandra Palace.
After winning the Premier League, Grand Slam of Darts and World Series of Darts Finals during a remarkable 2024 on the PDC circuit, Littler went on to win the World Darts Championship title, defeating Michael van Gerwen in January's final.
Littler was also named as the 2024 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and finished second in the main BBC Sports Personality of the Year voting.
He was part of The BIGGER 180 campaign at the World Darts Championship which raised over £1 million for Prostate Cancer UK in a record donation from Paddy Power, while he has also supported the Motor Neurone Disease Association by wearing the charity's logo on his shirt during last year.
An extraordinary meeting of Warrington Council on Monday February 24 saw the council leader, Cllr Hans Mundry, propose Littler being awarded Honorary Citizenship, which was seconded by deputy leader, Cllr Jean Flaherty, and approved by all councillors.
Warrington Borough Council Leader, Cllr Hans Mundry, said: "This award recognises Luke's outstanding achievements in the sport and his inspirational impact. His rise has been meteoric – and his stunning victory at the World Darts Championship captivated the nation, cementing his status as a huge star in the world of darts.
"We are incredibly proud of Luke and his remarkable accomplishments. His dedication, skill, and sportsmanship, along with his charitable work, make him a true inspiration to young people in Warrington and beyond.
"Luke is proof that through hard work and belief in your dreams, anything is possible. We're delighted to bestow the title of Honorary Citizen, and we will continue to follow his career with great interest and excitement."
The Honorary Citizenship is the latest recognition for Littler's stunning emergence, after seeing his hometown rugby league club, Warrington Wolves, rename their stadium in his honour last weekend for their Betfred Super League game with Catalans Dragons, when the teenager was a special guest.
He also paraded the Sid Waddell Trophy at Old Trafford as a guest of Manchester United during January.
Littler was named as the PDC Player of the Year for 2024/25 last month in one of five trophies which he scooped in the PDC's Annual Awards.
