International Trio Win Ally Pally Spots

CARLOS RODRIGUEZ, Max Hopp and Mohd Latif Sapup have won places in the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship.

German teenager Hopp, who impressed in reaching the Last 16 of the Dutch Darts Masters European Tour event last month by defeating Terry Jenkins and Steve Beaton in Nuland, won the Central European Qualifier for the World Championship in Bielefeld.

Hopp, 16, was in great form in the event, whitewashing Steven Mehl and then defeating Michal Koclk 6-3 before coming from 5-2 down - and facing match darts - against Dragutin Horvat to win 6-5.

In the final, he overcame Austrian World Cup representative Maik Langendorf 6-1, winning the game's first five legs without reply before sealing the victory.

"I'm very happy," said Hopp. "I'm looking forward to my next big tournament with the PDC and I'd love to give the top players a hard time."

The Western Europe Qualifier was held in Avila, Spain, featuring 110 players from Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal, Belgium and Holland and was won by Carlos Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, twice previously a World Championship qualifier in 2009 and 2010, enjoyed a welcome return to form as he came through the field to ensure a return to Alexandra Palace.

He enjoyed some fine wins on the day, seeing off David Jiminez 6-1 and Juan Huertas 6-0 as he won through to the quarter-finals, where he dropped only two legs against Alberto Fernandez.

Rodriguez then overcame Eduardo Sales 6-4 and edged out Stefan Couwenberg 6-5 in the final to seal his World Championship spot.

Antonio Alcinas - who enjoyed a classic game with Andy Hamilton in last year's World Championship - lost out in the semi-finals to Couwenberg, while Gibraltar's Dylan Duo and Belgium's Ronnie Huybrechts joined Fernandez and Jose Antonio Justicia in the last eight.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's Mohd Latif Sapup won the South-East Asia Qualifier to earn his debut in the World Championship.
